Sunny Meadow Stories - Junior Elf Book
I loved these Junior Elf Books as a child, and appreciate them more as an adult - especially the art work. This one is called "Sunny Meadow Stories", 1950 edition.

Try putting them in a plastic bag with baking soda? M.Stewart may have the right info archived on her blog somewhere..I remember her covering this kind of thing years ago.
