Welcome one and all!
I
LOVE
THURSDAYS!
So, what's going on today that's "smokin' "? Come on now, besides Jim Carrey!
I was telling Mister how smoking items are the hot new collectible; he went out to the barn (of course!) and came back with these first two items:
This is a smokeless ashtray. I didn't know they made these "back in the old days" - thought it was a modern invention. I have no idea how old this is, but it is so cool looking (minus the dirt).
This is a Delft ashtray from who-knows-when.
This I picked up at a thrift store just because I thought it was pretty! It can fit a piece of stemware or a candle inside it.
Let's head back to Coloradolady to see all the other smokin' vintage thingies!

I heard a dealer talking at a flea market about just what you said, she thought ash trays were making a HUGE comeback on the collecting scene. I like the one with the windmill. Really nice.
Have a wonderful weekend. Happy VTT.
I wish I'd known about smokeless ashtrays back when my Dad was puffing away, and we would fight constantly because it would make me so sick! Cool collectible!
interesting post..i love the delft ashtray :)
Hi Sue,
thanks for your lovely comments about my blog. It's made my day! As for the primula on my banner, it is cut out from a piece of wrapping paper I bought years and years ago.I painted a little trug and stuck pictures on it. Glad you liked it!

Great post...love the Delft ash tray-so pretty! and the ball glass dish is lovely! The smokeless ashtray is very interesting...was that an electric cord do you think? Was there a fan inside?
I've had my eyes so peeled for ashtray lately! Now I'm going google smokeless ashtrays!
I am curious about how that smokeless ashtray worked.
I scrolled down and see that you have vintage thingies on other days too. You must have a lot.
Very cool! I really love the smokeless one at the top! Dh loves cool ash trays! I look for them at thrift stores and flea markets whenever I can!
Remember the movie Gremlins? The father invented the smokeless ash tray and was hawking it at trade shows. I would not have passed on that lovely Delft ashtray either.
Ashtrays as a collectible? I totally get it! I don't even smoke and I once got into a bidding war w/a man at an auction over a pink 1950's ashtray on a stand, LOL! I won, btw. ;)
I've never seen anything like that first photo. I've heard of smokeless ashtrays though. You found some good stuff. Wish I had a barn to store mine in!

That contraption is quite odd...I didn't think they were concerned about second hand smoke then.
Some ashtrays are purdy cool, like your delft there. Thanks for the smokin post!
Honey don't try to plug in that ashtray!!!
We should have seen this whole smokin' revival coming -- of course it happens AFTER we all say, "Well, let's get rid of these old ashtrays..."
You really have a great, educational post. I have been around awhile, and I have never seen an ashtray like that. Too, thank you for dropping by to visit my post.
Hubby (who doesn't smoke) collects ash trays! We use the big ones for candy dishes.
Cool stuff in your post!
Happy VTT!
Although my dad quit smoking five years before he died, nearly four decades ago..these ashtrays sure do look familiar!
Neat!
I have found many a cool ashtrays at auctions. Some of them are almost like sculptures. Cool finds.
