TABLE IS UP + FIND OF THE YEAR!

Some of you wanted to see my kitchen table set up, so here it is. I didn't bother cleaning up around the table or waiting until K.C. moved out of the pic! I only have one round tablecloth, a pale yellow, which doesn't match the kitchen, so I'll have to start a new hunt. All my rectangle ones aren't wide enough for this; I need to get some solid ones to put under the rectangle ones.

Mister says it's solid, without a veneer. And it has FOUR leaves!

I went to the thrift store the other day and found this wonderful Homer Laughlin Harlequin blue creamer. It will match my H.L. Riviera collection that I've started!

I also found this nice, long Christmas welcome banner.

And, finally, the Find Of The Year! A Christmas List box! Why is this so exceptional? Because it's "brand new", looks like it's never been used with no scratches and the band still around the dividers inside. And, mostly, because it was only ONE DOLLAR! These babies are now in the $15+ price range online. I love the pop-up Santa when you open the lid. Yay me!

NEW TABLE

We've acquired yet another "new" kitchen table! This came from my aunt's estate; she passed in January. My sister and cousin have been cleaning the house and this was the only item left that no one else wanted. I was so surprised because it was my aunt's husband's dad's, then they inherited it. My earliest recollection is of it being in the same dining room in the same house in the early 60's up until the present. So I have no idea how old it really is. Mister can't tell if it's mahogany or not, and it's about 54 inches across.

Obviously, Mister hasn't had time to put it together yet - where do I put all my clutter until then? LOL!

SOME SUMMER FLOWERS

I have a variety of Daylilies in my yard and, this morning, picked a few for my kitchen table. The yellow ones are delicately fragrant but I lost the tag a few years ago. The purple ones are called Little Grapette.

I put a new tablecloth on. We got a "new" small, round table from a friend a few months back and I had put my enamel-topped one in my craft room. Problem: I only have one round tablecloth! Problem solved: I just folded over my rectangular one to fit the table! Voila!

You can barely see a red spot out the window at the top left of the chair. That's my dwarf Sweet Peas growing in a planter against the railing. They only grow about three feet and are slightly fragrant. It's a north direction, but they get a few hours of sun in the early morning.

TODAY IS REDNESDAY!

Hi everyone! Today is Rednesday, but I'm not hosting it anymore. Melody of Brown Gingham Creations is!

I have a favorite aunt, Aunt Rose, who passed away a few weeks ago. She was the youngest (at 80) of six with my mother being one of the oldest. Three are still alive. Aunt Rose was full of fun and always ready to give a listening ear or some sound advice. She lived in a big old house with a barn/garage, a garden shed (my uncle's), a grape arbor and a pond "way out back" on the property.

I loved the occasional sleepovers and family gatherings there. She made the best grilled cheese sandwiches in the world! She always had this Chinese lantern hanging in her kitchen - I don't know why because she loved Native Americans (adopted two), wolves, and angel dolls. I always wanted it and was fortunate to be able to have it after she was gone.

It's sad how some people die and it's expected, and some it isn't. Aunt Rose, at 80, could easily have passed for 60 or 65. She wasn't gray, but still a pretty strawberry blond.  She was very active with gardening, crafting, and being social. Cancer quickly took her over the summer. I will always have fond memories of my favorite aunt!

WHAT IS IT?

Does anyone know what this is? (besides dirty, lol!) It was with some vintage kitchen tools and I haven't a clue. It's about 3" long.

I HAVE THE BLUES

After the Christmas decorations came down, I was redecorating the empty spaces. I lined up my old blue canning jars on the kitchen hutch, and I think they look so pretty there! I used to have a humongous one, that was my dad's, but lost it in the house fire.

 This one says TRADEMARK LIGHTNING. (Moonshine, maybe? LOL!)

 

Not blue, but an interesting design.

This is a storage jar, hoosier, maybe. It has such a nice criss-cross pattern.

This darling ceramic birdhouse decoration came home from the thrift store a few weeks ago. I can't wait to hang it outside when the weather allows.

 

I got this at a Family Dollar store in December. This has always been my favorite hymn.

So now you can understand why I have the (happy) blues!

REDNESDAY

Happy Easter and Passover everyone! Passover begins on Friday, and Easter is on Sunday. I have lots of pics to show you this week!

First is this McDonald's display that Katherine wanted because she collects Transformers and My Little Ponies (she's 19, mind you!). They called Saturday and said it was ours. She is so beside herself!


Here's a 1953 Mattel Easter egg that I acquired this year on eBay. Music doesn't work, but it's red!


Here's the full shelf display with some other Easter eggs (a gift from Carey of Chicory Nits last year). The mushroom candle holders were thrifted last month, they're so cute. The round tin in the middle is new, from eBay, also. A close-up is in the next photo.


Isn't it so different with the brightly colored jewels all over it? Directly behind it is a Homer Laughlin "Riviera" serving tray that I picked up at a thrift store a few weeks ago for $1.00! Nothing wrong with it - no chips or cracks, or crazing. My heart was beating fast because I already have a few Riviera pieces, the saucers in front of the tray, and a serving bowl which you can see in the previous photo on the above shelf. Another "official" collection started!


(That's poster putty at the base to keep it from sliding.)


Last week I said I'd show you the aprons I estated. While ironing them I also ironed my own "granny" apron, so here it is all neatly pressed.

REDNESDAY - KITCHEN REDS

Welcome to Rednesday! I'm showing a few kitchen reds today. This first photo is the wall above the stove. I took down these two red & white daffodil shelves,


and put up this scalloped shelf and tray. I think the red-capped salt & peppers look much better lined up this way. The whole arrangement is so nice to view from across the room.


I broke down and bought this adorable utensil tray at the antique store in town. It's been there for at least six months, and I was afraid if I waited any longer it would be gone.


I decided to redecorate the little shelf beside the fridge, too, with red, of course!


Last, and best, is this oh-so-pretty bunting that arrived in the mail this week. This special blog friend, whom I call my doppelganger (in the good sense), made it and sent it to me. I swear we were twins separated at birth, because we like, pretty much, all the identically same vintage stuff! She is Carol of Old Glory Cottage! I love it soooo much - and it matches my kitchen curtains nicely, too!

REDNESDAY

Welcome to another Rednesday! I'm getting into my new school routine, getting up before 7:00 a.m. for Jade's arrival, getting her fed and dressed to go to school at 8:30. Come back to take Becky to the high school at 9:00. (Right now she's there for two classes a day and we'll try to up it a class every few weeks, and hope that's not rushing her too much.) Pick her up at 11:15; pick Jade up at 3:00 on Mon, Tues, and Wed; then she leaves at 6:00 those days. She doesn't come Thursdays and Fridays, so it's like I have a long weekend each week!

What's red this week? Well, a new dotty spotty rug for the door - that no one likes except me. Even the cats were afraid of it the first day! But, hey, for $4.50 on clearance at Wally World (WalMart), they'll all have to suffer with it!

I also picked up these adorable mushroom plant-waterer-thingies at my local Ocean State Job Lot for $1 each. They have holes on the back side of the top mushroom for water, but I'm just using them for decoration.

Next, is my latest red purse, that I got at a thrift store about 3 or 4 months ago.

Mister found this vintage Pepsi bottle . . . guess where? . . . on the side of the road with some stuff! It goes nicely with the Red Rock bottle that he picked up some months ago. (I keep saran wrap on my bowls on the top shelf 'cuz I hate to dust!)

And, my coleuses looking ever-so-grand in front of the graceful Kiss-Me-Over-The-Garden-Gate (polygonum) flowers!
