REDNESDAY - CHRISTMAS REDS #2

Only two more REDnesdays before Christmas, after today!
As each day goes on, and each decoration is put in its place, the more excited I get! Here are some more of my decorations to show you.

My front door wreath is very simple this year - with just a red spotty bow!

I made this in 1987, as a memory of my two years in Belgium.

This is a (very simplified) German "Schwibbogen", which means Candle Arch ~The look goes back to a tradition of miners, who hung their burning pit lamps semicircularly on the pit entry hole before they started their last shift before Christmas. The Candle Arch expresses the longing of light by the miners who did not see very much daylight during their workdays.

Everyday scenes from the life of the miners were the main motif at first. Nowadays the Holy Story and other religious topics often serve as motives. In addition the forest with its animals and the homeland can be seen. In the Ore Mountains one can see the Candle Arches during the Christmas time in many windows and in over-size versions on public places. The Arch has found many lovers from all over the world during the last century.

This is my Candy Cane Fairy! She stands watch over the candy canes each year to make sure the Grinch doesn't steal them! Do you recognize the dishes? They're those popular milk glass ones with the holes in the rim. Perfect size for the small canes!

Sue, I love your candy cane fairy! She looks sweet, but I would not want to mess with her! And that candle arch is so gorgeous, and I liked reading the history behind it. Only two more Rednesdays before Christmas? I can't believe how fast it's coming!
Happy REDnesday!

I loved reading about the Christmas arch. I had never heard the history. I completely understand the longing for sunlight. I can't imagine how the minors deal with lack of sun. Thanks for hosting and Merry Christmas. And, by the way, I'll be happy to wish you a Merry Christmas again before the blessed day!

My best friend in grammar school was a girl named Nora whose parents were from Belgium and I always loved to listen to their accents! I love your milk glass and what a creative way to display candy canes.

I love the simplicity of that little wreath with bow.
And your fairy is so sweet.

I accidentally put the wrong name on my post, but the bit of red is there. =0))

I also noticed my name did not come up right away, so will check back to see if it did anything.

blessings and thanks for this cheery red day.

Happy Rednesday Sue, I hope I'm done decorating before Christmas gets here! I seem to have gotten a slow start this year.

Love the story behind the candle arch. I think minning must be one of the hardest jobs. I've been in a few caverns here as a tourist and couldn't stand it!

I came to visit everyone and realized I forgot to link up last night. That's what I get for not finishing my post till almost midnight!

Warm hugs,
Dawn

Hi Sue...
Thanks for stopping by sweetie...
I just wanted to pop over and say hi. I also wanted to thank you for sending my Heidi Girl(she is my daughter)the Fairy. You will never know how much that meant to her. She has a lot on her plate right now, and to just know that someone besides family cares meant so much to her. She was so, so thrilled. I thank you from the bottom of my heart sweetie. Thank you for loving her like I do. She is one in a million.

Hope you have a beautiful Thursday.

Country hugs sweetie...Sherry
