BAD STORY - HAPPY STORY!

I admit, I'm not a great storyteller like Elizabeth of Creative Breathing, or Abe of The Blog O'Cheese, but here's my story (and I'm stickin' to it).

We have ants. Yup - real, live, creepy-crawly ants. Not the little ones either, but the medium sized ones. Teen saw one on the front door Thursday evening, then Mister saw a bunch more by bed time, and they've been coming ever since.

This is very disconcerting to me because

(1) no one likes ants in their house, especially me, because . . .
(2) we had an ant nest in the wall of our 200-yr-old farmhouse before our present house.
(3) our present house is only seven years old.

Because of our old house's problem, Mister has sprayed around the foundation of the new house every year. He forgot to do it earlier this Spring, so maybe that's why they got in. I don't know - we can't find the entrance, but they're mainly in the kitchen area.

I had to clear everything, literally, from the kitchen counters (which left me no excuses not to clean the appliances!) and washed them and the utensil drawers, with bleach. On a positive note, I got Mister to recalk the counter-meets-wall while it was empty.

So, everything is sitting on the kitchen table; and will continue to do so for a week or two until the little buggers go away. Mister sprayed outside, and put down some ant traps inside, so I guess it's just a waiting game now.

Here's the happy story ~

I used to have a friend who had a gorgeous plate hanging over the fireplace in her kitchen - I fell in love with it and have wanted one ever since (about 10 years), but haven't found one locally. Online, they're quite expensive, $25+, and I'm too frugal (and poor) to pay that much. Last week I was talking with Melody of Brown Gingham Creations about the plate, because she happens to have one also and offered to keep an eye out for one in Ohio for me.

Our church youth group was having a yard and plant sale Saturday, so Friday afternoon I took over a bunch of plants to donate. The yard sale portion was in the church's garage under the building, and I asked a woman setting up if I could just look around.

After browsing around and not really seeing anything much to my liking I spotted, all the way down the other end of the garage, "the" plate! I couldn't believe my eyes! And, on top of that, it was only $5.00! I was soooo excited, but collected myself enough to ask the woman if I could purchase something while I was there, and she said yes. So my dream plate came home with me on Friday, and here it is ~
Yay!

Sorry about those ants. We get them where we live in CA, too. Never pleasant.

It's a very beautiful and unusual plate. I can see why you wanted one so much.
