Vintage Thingies Thursday - Sleep Sweet

I absolutely love this poem! I bought the picture at an antique store years ago, but the oval frame was in seriously poor shape. I hadn't been able to find an oval frame in stores, so settled on this one. Someday (when I'm rich & famous!) I'd like to have it custom framed. Beautiful orange poppies, and that isn't a water stain going diagonally across, it's part of the design.

The lamp was found at WalMart, I believe. Isn't it pretty? I probably should have turned on the light to focus on the detail of the roses. It's one of those painted-on-the-inside ones. Unfortunately, it fell and the glass broke - but I like it so much, I just glued the pieces back together. Instant chippy! (These are in my bedroom. The pretty doily is quite old, too.)

In case you can't read the poem in the photo, here are the words:

Sleep sweet within this quiet room
O thou! whoe'er thou art,
And let no mournful yesterday
Disturb thy peaceful heart.
Nor let to-morrow scare thy rest
With dreams of coming ill.
Thy Maker is thy changeless friend,
His love surrounds thee still.
Forget thyself and all the world,
Put out each feverish light.
The stars are watching overhead,
Sleep sweet
Good Night! Good Night!

What a sweet poem and a beautiful graphic display. Keep looking for oval frames, they show up, but the frame you have put it in looks very nice.

I love the colors in your picture. And the doily reminds me of my grandmother - she did a lot of crochet work. Very pretty arrangement!

What a sweet poem, and I don't think I have ever seen a lamp like that at our walmart. That is a very pretty display.

Thank you for pointing out my spelling error. I always have trouble with those two words and my spellchecker doesn't catch it because croqueted is spelled correctly. Can't someone invent something to check for context for Pete's sake? Anyway - only a true friend would point out that you have broccoli sticking out of your teeth and so I appreciate your sweet correction.

Your lamp and picture are so beautiful and your site is charming. Blessings. Rosie

Hi Sue in Ma. That poem is so sweet that I got all snuggly and sleepy just reading it! I cant tell that it's supposed to be in an oval frame.

I love cherries too.

Oh what lovely prose. And you're right; when you are rich and famous, an antique oval frame would just be the cats meow.
They don't even write like they used to. Oh, why must things change so??
