I went out this morning to go for my annual physical. Got to the clinic and there was a problem with my new insurance card. I didn't want to pay full price for the visit (even though it would get reimbursed), so didn't keep the appointment.
Well, I figured that I had a couple hours to kill before having to take Teen to school, so where could I go with only a little cash in my pocket? Duh! Thrift shopping, of course! Not my favorite, but the other one I go to now and then. Where else can you walk out with three bags full of "stuff" for under $10?
First photo: these are all about 3" (7.5 cm) in height - the one with the little red knob must be a jam pot or something because it has a spoon hole; the two matching jars are marked Hazel Atlas on the bottom; the next up is sooo cute - looks like a miniature covered cake plate!; and the baskets are unmarked, but a pretty shade of green - ooh, I'll try to remember to use them on St. Patty's Day!
I discovered a few plastic bins full of sewing notions that I hadn't seen before. A half-roll of vintage red grosgrain ribbon; a few short dotty pieces, pink checked, and black roll of ribbon; two lengths of lace, some early 1960's wired floral picks; and the bottom half of a small box that I like because it says "Aug. 20, 1935" on it!
A very pretty tin tray that says "Red Boy Tray", and Made In England.
Me thinks this is a bowling shoe bag; either that or a lunch bag for a tall thermos! Anyway, it's red plaid - that's good enough for me.
This yellow glass piece I recognize as the top of a tea candle lamp - I'm sure I'll find some use for it; two Uncle Sam hat candles; and an angelic wall pocket that will go out in the garden somewhere.
A certain blog sister once said she has trouble finding apothecary jars and cloches in her country, so I'm planning on sending this and a few other "makeshift" cloches to her. Oh, and the blue doily was in the box as a cushion between the cover and plate!
