I'M LINKING UP WITH REDNESDAY - HERE!

I was fortunate enough to be able to go to Home Goods yesterday while mo-in-law was at her senior exercise class. Then, after class, we went to her church's thrift store. Here's some of what I got (not gonna show you the undergarments purchased!):

Picked up this for Mister. Appropriate for him!

I was so pleased to see this little Cath Kidston twosome! Only $5.00.

At the thrift shop I found two delightful tins to add to my collection, and some braided "ribbon".

This is a stationery set, with verses on each card and artwork by D. Morgan.

Last is this ever-so-lovely print with a verse for Mother. I've admired these on others' blogs but have never seen any in my travels before.

School vacation is over and I enjoyed not having to carpool Becky (mine) and Jade (I babysit). Back to the routine this week. After I dropped off Becky this morning I went over to JoAnn Fabric and Crafts. Not my favorite craft store, but I check in every now and then. Well, this week they just happen to be having a 50% off on all paper craft items! Stickers, embellishments, paper, Tim Holz stuff, etc. I got some distress ink pads, some papers, pearl "bling", and some alphabets. Could have used a couple hundred dollars for this sale!

I'm getting ready for Sandy's Easter Swap. I'm so excited about this! I chose a spool out of my vintage spool jar, and have been brainstorming all week.

I've taken down the Valentine decorations and swapped out the V-Day hankies for these ones.

 Which reminds me to show you this pretty vintage picture we got recently at the thrift store. We were admiring it and the manager gave it to us free! It's so pretty!

REDNESDAY - THRIFT SHOP REDS

I mentioned the other day that I would show a few red things that I picked up thrift shopping recently. Actually I got a lot of red stuff - cheap!

This red-framed print was bought because I like the frame, but ended up hanging the pic in the kitchen because it's "Fall-ish". The sneakers just happened to be my size!
This is a W. S. George "Mexi"-patterned platter that I put on Ebay this week. I love it, but it's really not me.
I love this bowl! It looks like a cereal bowl, but is mixing bowl size.
Got this Royal China "Memory Lane" creamer, then found the sugar bowl on Ebay to make a pair.

Now, this tin box is cool. It looks like it had those menu/recipe cards in it at one time. This must be from the 60's 'cuz I've only seen plastic ones.
I'll leave you with this cute little Kitchen Prayer plate that has a red tea kettle and cups!

VTT - Framed Prints

Wow, Thursday already! Where has the week gone? Today I'm showing some framed prints I have around the house.

This first print is from an old children's book (I don't know which one). I got it from eBay and, of course the cherries are what made me buy it. I framed it myself and it resides in the Kitchen.

Can't remember where I got this one. Sorry it's a little washed out - too much sun coming in the window. It lives in the Pantry.
I purchased this at an antique store about six years ago because I like Foxgloves. They happily while away the hours in the hallway.
This last print is from a children's Sunday School (oversized) story book. I got this from eBay also. I remember these from my childhood Sunday School days. And, of course being a gardener, I like it even more! These little children hang out in my Living Room.

More Easter Decorations

After church Teen insisted we go to a local antique store and, boy, am I glad we did! I found some vintage cards, a cute little yellow bird, and a wicked awesome RED something that I'll show on Wednesday!

Teen picked out two vintage books - one in French, and one about America - in German! Crazy kid! I saw an old book entitled "The Writings of Celia Thaxter" that I was dying to get, but it was $100! Even with their half-off books sale, I still wasn't going to pay $50 for a book. Interestingly, I can't find that title through Google.

This is a Mason's (England) 2-piece egg - Fruit Basket pattern.

Here is my Peter Rabbit display.
Two little Longaberger baskets with more Peter Rabbit eggs, and our Resurrection Eggs.
I got this display stand years ago at a second-hand store. It was rusty, so I spray painted it and use it for all sorts of things. Plastic eggs fit nicely in it. These ones are covered in German egg wrappers. They're meant for real eggs but were too cute for disposal. You put them around an egg, dip in boiling water, and they "shrink wrap" to the egg. These scenes are of a Bunny School. I love the purple egg - the headmaster is pulling the ear of a (naughty?) boy.
Teen, the manga artist, drew this when she was young. Jesus playing with bunnies after He was resurrected! (Who knows, maybe He did!) It's a keeper!

REDnesday #8, Home Sweet Home

Welcome, and Happy Rednesday!

Today is just a simple offering of one of my cross-stitch projects. I love the "Home Sweet Home" saying on old things, and this just reeked with vintage-ness! I made this about four years ago.
Then I started a redwork cherries-alphabet sampler . . . two years later it's only half done! Here's what it will look like someday.

My Computer Shelf

Over at Vintage Thingies Thursdays this week, someone shared the shelf above their kitchen sink where some of her favorite things were - because she's always there and sees them most. Great idea! Some of my favorite things are on the shelves above my computer, because that's where I am a lot. Let's take a "tour":

This is the whole kit & kaboodle, then I'll show close-ups of each section.
Starting from the top left, is the Currier & Ives illustration I printed from the internet for our home school, a vintage box of thumb tacks, a "clay" pot my dd made from some yard mud, a Hello Kitty gardener my other dd gave me, and a Willow Tree "Angel of the Garden" my MOL gave me.
On the top, middle, is an enamelware with green rim box that I keep some home school cd's in, a Mary Engelbreit photo magnet that says "A Little House ~a house of my own~ Out of the wind's and the rain's way.", and a Gnomes soldered art I purchased on eBay.
Top right is my fake-repro lunchbox by Moda, and an unknown vase.
Middle shelf is, on the left, gardening, birds, home books and a bookend I showed a few weeks back. In the middle are two fairies and a mirror - the left one is by Munroe "faerie glen" series and the other is a Cicely Mary Barker.
To the right are my ever-lovin' gnomes with some vintage Oriental garden, probably fishtank, pieces.
The bottom left shelf hosts an Anchor Hocking retro green mug and a glove(?) box that I keep stamps and address labels in. Press the rooster's wings and he gives a wake-up call! Comes in handy with my teen!
The bottom right is what I call my Red Hat Society - didn't group them by head gear intentionally, though. The dog has no tag, but the other two are marked Japan. They all get along well.

And, finally, in the middle are two items my pre-teen dd made for me this year. A tulip using some of my plant labels for leaves, and a picture depicting a leopard, jackals, and two rangers that we saw on Africam earlier this year.Hope you enjoyed these, and have a great Saturday everyone!

Vintage Thingies Thursday - Sleep Sweet

I absolutely love this poem! I bought the picture at an antique store years ago, but the oval frame was in seriously poor shape. I hadn't been able to find an oval frame in stores, so settled on this one. Someday (when I'm rich & famous!) I'd like to have it custom framed. Beautiful orange poppies, and that isn't a water stain going diagonally across, it's part of the design.

The lamp was found at WalMart, I believe. Isn't it pretty? I probably should have turned on the light to focus on the detail of the roses. It's one of those painted-on-the-inside ones. Unfortunately, it fell and the glass broke - but I like it so much, I just glued the pieces back together. Instant chippy! (These are in my bedroom. The pretty doily is quite old, too.)

Whiter Than Snow

We didn't go to church today. Had a snowstorm during the night and morning - about 5 inches. DH had to go out and plow our looooong driveway, his mother's down the street, and his brother's farther on down the street. So I've been cozy and snug here at my computer!

Being a Sunday, and being snowy out, I thought this an appropriate picture to share today. I purchased this at an antique store about five years ago. Love the frame, the lettering, and the scripture!
