FREE HALLOWEEN/FALL PICS
I don't celebrate Halloween, but this picture in one of my vintage children's books, We Like To Do Things, is just too cute to keep in hiding. Enjoy!
While I'm at it, here is another Autumn pic from the same book:

REDNESDAY 2013
Welcome to 2013, bloggers! I'm trusting it will be the funnest, most interesting and colorful blog year yet! I'm ready and raring to go. I have some red Christmas presents to share this week. First are some vintage kids books:
Also a few adorable figurines. The head vases are from 1964 and are only 3-1/2" tall. The greenery is original to them:
What do you have for New Year reds?

REDNESDAY
Greetings, friends! I was on the phone a few days ago scheduling a doctor's appointment for Becky when I realized that Thanksgiving is next week! That, in itself, isn't a problem but that means Christmas is not long behind it! Thus, the Christmas Counter on my sidebar, to keep me on track!
Speaking of holidays and special days . . . today, Tuesday November 13, is my birthday!
What'll I do? Nothing special planned, except a chance to have ice cream with my favorite New England Patriots player, Julian Edelman, this afternoon! Last week he sent out a tweet saying he will be at an ice cream parlor this afternoon if anyone wants to join him.
(Here he is, on our fridge, being assaulted with My Little Ponies!)
I dunno - it's kinda far away, about a 45-minute drive, and the weather will be thunderstormy today. Maybe not. It takes half that time to get to the stadium if I want to (which I've never done).
Now, moving right along, I got this vintage 1942 Christmas carol book last year, and it has the best cover! Here's the front, back, and inside back covers. Feel free to use them!

FORGET ME NOT
Surprise! I'm actually posting between Rednesdays! Maybe about six months ago, Katherine's (oldest kid) computer died and we've been sharing mine. With all my gardening and wanting to be outside most of the time (and reading fiendishly otherwise!) I've let it slide and have only been using the computer a few hours each night - to watch Africam, of course!
I have this delightful little book that I picked up a while back that I want to share with you. It doesn't state the date of publication but, inside the cover, it is handwritten, "Lydia Haims/Harmes (can't tell) + P. Myer married Oct. 24, 1924". Funny how she didn't write his full first name! Scribbled throughout are names and years of birthdays and weddings.
This next page is what inspired me to post now. The pretty roses on the page reminded me of my Fairy Rose bush so I used it for a backdrop!

REDNESDAY - LET'S BOOK IT!

Today I'm going to share some books that have red in them!
This first, We Like To Do Things, was an antique store find this past weekend. It's from 1949, doesn't have a back cover, and I paid $3.25 for it - way too much for its' condition, but the graphics are so awesome!

Hey, where are the child labor laws?

I'm sure many of you are familiar with this darling book from 1945. A little bunny saw a cardinal and decided he wanted red wings, too. So he went to the wishing well, got his wings, and no one recognized him, even his mommy. So he had to go back and wish them away.

The next three books are family heirlooms. This first one is called Song and Study for God's Little Ones, copyright 1894.

Now, this adorable little book is from Made In Pixieland. And, guess what? It's not a book! It's a secret book.

CAMPING ON REDNESDAY

I found this great book at a yard sale last year. It's dated 1961. Lots of fun photos and text, too! Come on, let's go camping this Rednesday!
Funny how, in this cover pic, the dad is in 'camouflage' and blends in with the rocks. No red, no center stage!

"Women take advantage of all the new conveniences that make camping easy." Yeah, right! Where's the air conditioning and refrigerator, toilet and t.v.? LOL!

Remember how heavy these metal coolers were (are)? Get a load of the bathing suits!

What I wouldn't give for one of these thermos/snack units! (They're red plaid) I've seen them on eBay for mega bucks. It would be so awesome to find one at a yard sale! *sigh*

Yes, we love going camping in a freshly starched and ironed dress! I hope she didn't forget her stockings! And, what's with those burgers - is the Jolly Green Giant coming for lunch?

Well, while you've got the station wagon here, you might as well sleep in it - or on it!
