REDNESDAY - VALENTINES + RED RADIO!

I'm going to show the rest of my Valentines along with a cool radio that Mister got free (along with some glass bottles) on the side of the road this week. (He has the best luck with freebies!)

This is a German Steinbach ornament that I picked up at a Christmas fair in Belgium in 1985.
Here's my radio - a nice retro red! Despite the corroded batteries in it, it still worked. Of course, they came out. It stands 9" (23cm) tall. I can just picture this at the beach in one of those bikini movies!
Teen wanted to go to the thrift shop after school, and I picked up this little hand bell (minus the clapper) - it appears to be a Bakelite handle. This cutie is 4" (10cm) tall.

BACK TO HOME SCHOOL! and MORNING GLORIES

Pre-teen is starting home school today!



These are a few of the books we'll be using other than the "basics". The Brendan Voyage for Geography; Heroes for Young Readers - Missionaries; Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? - Economics; English Literature for Boys & Girls (H. E. Marshall, 1909); and Basic Cooking.
I, for the most part, follow the curriculum guide from Ambleside Online, which uses the Charlotte Mason method of home schooling. Charlotte Mason, who taught in the 1890's, is considered the "founder" of the modern home school movement. You can read more about her method HERE, or on Google.

Now, how about some Morning Glories!

This first one is the notorious noxious weed called Bindweed. It's as pretty as any Morning Glory, with just a hint of pale pink on them (washed out in this photo) - but don't let them grow in your garden!

HARD COVERS & HOME SCHOOL

I have been so busy the past few days that I didn't even post on Vintage Thingies Thursdays! The culprit? Home school preparation. I have all the books, now I just have to organize, and all that jazz. I use the Charlotte Mason Method by way of Ambleside Online.

Now, speaking of books . . . I do so love old hardcovers with beautiful cloth covers. I received an email from Abe Books featuring 30 colorful antique hardcovers. Yes, they're out of my price range, but soooo beautiful to look at. Click here to visit the page. I would love to own this book below!
